Running a business often feels like juggling too many things at once. As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves working around the clock, struggling to make time for both business and life. That is exactly why Jenn Bays, CEO of Success Beyond, created her Balanced Trifecta: systems, boundaries, and support.
In a recent episode of The Unexpected Entrepreneur, Jenn breaks down how she discovered the Balanced Trifecta through years of working with creative business owners. She’s seen the same struggles over and over—lack of structure, lack of boundaries, and no support system—and knows exactly how to fix them.
What is the Balanced Trifecta?
Jenn’s Balanced Trifecta consists of three essential elements: systems, boundaries, and support. When you put these three pillars in place, both in your home life and your business, you can achieve true balance. Here’s how each one works:
1. Systems
Your systems form the foundation of how your business operates. From CRMs like HoneyBook or Dubsado to scheduling and email management tools, having the right systems in place ensures your business runs smoothly—even when you’re not around. These systems also provide consistency, so each client receives the same high-quality experience.
It’s also important to create Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) early on, even if you’re a solopreneur. It’s much easier to set up systems when it’s just you or a small team. By doing this, you’re future-proofing your business, so when it grows, you won’t be scrambling to figure out processes.
2. Boundaries
Entrepreneurs often feel like they need to be available 24/7, but this is a fast track to burnout. Establishing boundaries—both personal and professional—is key to maintaining balance. For example, set specific days off, or stop taking client calls after a certain time.
Make sure your systems back up your boundaries, like setting your scheduling tool to show only certain days or times as available for meetings. You can also use systems that block out your business apps after hours to avoid notifications and focus on your personal life outside of work.
3. Support
As your business grows, you can’t do it all alone. That’s where support comes in. Whether it’s hiring a VA or outsourcing personal tasks like cleaning or meal prep, having help in place allows you to focus on what truly matters.
Start small by outsourcing in your personal life before bringing on a team member in your business. This way, you gain time back without the added pressure of training someone.
Why You Need the Balanced Trifecta
This approach is all about creating a business that works for you, not the other way around. By setting up systems, establishing boundaries, and getting the right support in place, you can finally achieve the freedom and flexibility that motivated you to start your business in the first place.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling to maintain a work-life balance, it’s time to take a step back and reassess. Start by asking yourself where you can implement better systems, what boundaries need tightening, and how you can get more support.
