It can be hard to figure out how to increase website conversions! Luckily, as website designers who have built 50+ custom sites over the last few years, we’ve got some great tips to share with you.

This blog post is based on an episode of The Unexpected Entrepreneur podcast! In today’s discussion, we’re diving into the world of website strategy and how it plays a pivotal role in converting visitors into customers.

I’m excited to share with you the three essential questions you need to ask yourself to ensure your website is optimized for success.

How to Convert Website Visitors: Questions to Ask Yourself

What is the goal of my website?

Your website should have a primary goal supported by secondary goals that complement it. Whether you want your website visitors to make a purchase, join an email list, schedule a discovery call, or take any other desired action, your website’s design decisions should revolve around achieving this primary goal.

For instance, our primary goal on our website is to encourage visitors to contact us. Therefore, our call-to-action buttons and emphasis throughout the site are geared towards this goal.

Remember, your goals can be seasonal (and will probably change a lot through the years), so adapt them as needed to align with your business objectives.

Are all of my design decisions moving me towards that goal?

Once you’ve identified your website’s primary goal, it’s crucial to ensure that every design decision supports it. For example, if your aim is to encourage visitors to contact you, make sure your call-to-action buttons consistently prompt them to do so.

Use attention-grabbing elements like movement and bright colors to draw the eye toward these buttons and create a sense of urgency. Even the smallest details, such as your chosen images, should align with your goals.

For example, if you want to showcase a comprehensive photography experience, feature photos that capture the full range of emotions and moments throughout a couple’s special day!

How does my website make visitors feel?

Put yourself in the shoes of a first-time visitor to your site. How does it make you feel? Does it guide you toward the desired action?

To put it to the test, ask a friend or family member to navigate your website and observe their reactions and actions. Their fresh eyes can highlight potential pitfalls or areas where visitors may get sidetracked that you might not have noticed.

Additionally, consider using tools like Hotjar to analyze heat maps and understand where visitors are most engaged on your site. This data can help you optimize your design further and ensure visitors are clicking where you want them to.

Ready to increase website conversions?

Hopefully, you now have a solid understanding of the three essential questions that will guide you in creating a website that converts visitors into customers. Remember, a strategic website design is key to achieving your business goals.

By identifying your website’s primary goal, aligning design decisions with that goal, and considering the visitor’s experience, you’ll create a website that is not only visually appealing but also highly effective in driving conversions.
